Once again the Autodromo do Algarve, in southern Portugal, has a fantastic (provisional) line up of events for 2010, so get out those diaries that you got for christmas and pencil in some, high octane, motor racing entertainment for you, your family and friends to enjoy. The track will be hosting the SBK world superbike championships, the Le Mans series (which includes a night race), the Ferrari challenge and the popular Algarve historic festival among other events taking place throughout the year at Parkalgar. The town and castle of Paderne in Algarve, southern Portugal will once again be turning the clock back 500 years or more for it´s annual medieval festival. If you are looking for real culture and entertainment for both you and the kids then this is as real and as fun as it gets. Step back in time and into the world of the middle ages. Located within the town and the castle walls, you will be transported back to life under the rule of the Moors, with jousting tournaments, sword fighting, traditional games, Jesters, street entertainment, fire jugglers, barbarians, musicians and belly dancing maidens, medieval crafts stalls and other traditional shows. The Algarve is a walker’s paradise. This southerly portion of Portugal offers a wonderful variety of walks for all, from rugged Cistus covered mountains to lush green valleys, from stunning coastal footpaths and sand dunes to whitewashed villages, pine and eucalyptus forests and various nature reserves. Wednesday October 14th - Let’s Walk on Picota, Monchique. A slightly more challenging walk to the top of Picota (the second highest point in the Algarve) but we do start more than half way up. Great views and scenery on this 2.5 hour circular walk. Full details here

Culture vultures make note. Opera buffs look out. There will be two performances of Henry Purcells classic “Dido and Aeneas” taking place at the Museu do Trajo in Sao Bras on the evenings of Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th of October 2009. Performances start at 7.30 pm and tickets cost 10 Euro (8 Euro for friends of the museum)

Algarve Auctions are open every Monday between 10.00 and 16.00 for the intake of new items for auction and the sale of other objects from garden furnitue, tools, household goods, electrical equipment and much more, with auctions taking place on the first Friday of every month. So if you have things to sell or are looking to equip you home with all sorts of items at bargain prices why not head down to the auction and see what´s coming under the hammer each month. Here´s one for the keen cyclists out there in Algarve. On the 10th of October there will be the chance to take part in a cycling competition with 3 trails of 25km, 50km and 80km. So if you are as fit as a butchers dog, or would like to get that way, why not head to the central Algarve and meet at the EB 2, 3 SB Messines school at 7.00am for an 8.30 start. There are three double bill theatre nights coming to Lagoa on the 16th to the 18th of October at the municipal theatre with A Portada performances of The real inspector hound and Snakes and ladders. The Friday and Saturday performances start at 8.00 pm and the Sunday performance starts at 5.00 pm. Tickets are available on the door and cost 12 Euro for adults and 7 Euro for children and students. There are three double bill theatre nights coming to Faro on the 9th to the 11th of October at the Teatro Lethes with A Portada performances of The real inspector hound and Snakes and ladders. The Friday and Saturday performances start at 8.00 pm and the Sunday performance starts at 5.00 pm. Tickets are available on the door and cost 12 Euro for adults and 7 Euro for children and students. 30th Handicraft, Tourism, Agriculture, Commerce and industry Fair. Once again Lagoa, Algarve is setting up it´s stall in the fairs and exhibition ground (on the EN125, at the traffic lights) for the Fatacil Fair. Starting on Friday 21st of August and running until the 30th this is one of the biggest fairs of it´s type and you will find stands displaying all manner of products and wares. From garden furniture, Jacuzzi´s, boats and tractors to handicrafts, cork products and artwork. There will be food stalls where you can sample traditional foods like the cheese and hams from the serra (mountain regions). 20 Algarve wine producers will also be offering samples of their wines to taste and buy. There is a programme of live music each night with bands including Da Weasel, Bootleg Abba and The Stranglers. We have put together a video preview of the artists who are playing at this years Fatacil so you can better choose which night you fancy going.
