Walking In Portugal - Discover The Central Algarve

The Algarve is a walker’s paradise. This southerly portion of Portugal offers a wonderful variety of walks for all, from rugged Cistus covered mountains to lush green valleys, from stunning coastal footpaths and sand dunes to whitewashed villages, pine and eucalyptus forests and various nature reserves.

Wednesday October 21st - Let’s Walk from Messines Baixo
A fantastic walk of almost 3 hours but very easy with no real climbs, part of the walk follows the Via Algarviana.
10.00am start - meet at the ‘Paragem’ cafe in Messines Baixo. The village is on the Messines to Alte road and the cafe is at the far end of the village on the right (direction towards Alte & Salir).

Portugalwalks organise a programme of 2 - 3 hour guided walks which changes monthly, everyone is very welcome to come along and there is no need to book. There is a charge of 5 euro for each walk which includes a donation to charity (we are actively sponsoring 3 children in third world countries).

Advice to walkers

  • Take a hat, sunglasses and suncream.
  • Wear footwear that is suitable for the planned terrain covered by the walk.
  • Take clothing that is suitable for the season, including rainwear if forecast.
  • Take a small bag or rucksack containing drinking water, some energy snacks, a basic first aid kit, a map of the trail, a torch, a compass and your mobile phone.
  • To fully enjoy the walk we also recommend that you take a camera, a pair of binnoculars and a magnifying glass.
